Ride-Along

We are proud to present an Ambulance Ride-Along Program co-organized by EMIG and Ottawa Paramedic Services.

Ambulance Ride-Along Program

The ambulance ride-along elective is a 12-hour shift where you will follow along with a paramedic team. In the hospitals, in the ambulance calls, and into the field, you will get the full experience of paramedicine. The ride-along earns you 3 MSPR hours for EMIG, and it also counts as a 10 hour preclerkship elective.

The ride-along program is unfortunately only available during the fall semester so we offered a short sign-up period in order to get things started quickly. The deadline to express interest was Oct. 7th, 2015 at 9pm. We apologize for not being able to accommodate more people and a longer sign-up period but that is just the nature of the program’s availability.

For those of you who were fortunate enough to sign up, make sure we get the following documents in a timely manner or else you will be unable to schedule your ride-along:

1) Your Police Record Check must have been received by the Risk Management office.

2) You must have completed your N95 mask fitting. For MD 2019s, this means that once sign-up becomes available, you will only be able to sign up for ride-along dates that occur after your N95 fitting day.

  • You will receive a card on your N95 mask fitting day, and you must keep it because the Risk Management office will likely not have processed through their records that you’ve had your mask fitted. Additionally, keep the N95 mask you are given so that you can bring it on your shift.

3) You must fill out the application form attached in this email ASAP. Print it out, fill it out, scan it, and send it back to us either via your initial email that declared your interest, or as a reply to that email so that we can keep it all together. To answer any questions regarding completing the form, I’ve attached a form that was deemed acceptable, so please model yours accordingly.

Plenty more details about next steps and logistics will come this week for those of you who express interest by the deadline.
